Upper Tahquamenon Falls
The Tahquamenon Falls State Park is one of the most visited of Michigan’s many state parks. The upper falls have a drop of nearly 50 feet and are more than 200 feet across, making it one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi! A winding paved pathway leads from the parking lot through an old growth forest to wooden observation decks, which are handicap accessible. After experiencing the breathtaking views, return to the parking area to visit the brewery and restaurant or stop in the gift shop!

Lower Tahquamenon Falls
Four miles downstream of the Upper Falls of Tahquamenon’s waterfall is the Lower Falls, a series of five smaller falls flowing around an island. The Tahquamenon Falls State Park offers rowboats to rent to experience the falls up close. If hiking is more your style, take to the trail and explore the falls on foot. The Lower Falls offers excellent fishing potential, from trout to muskies!

Whitefish Bird Observatory
Just north of Paradise is the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory. This is an excellent spot to view many different species of birds. The point makes a natural migration corridor for birds. The spring and fall have thousands of birds flying through. The WPBO conducts research on bird migrations and encourages public awareness of these birds and their environment.

Oswald's Bear Ranch
Located north of Newberry is the largest bear ranch in the U.S. Don’t miss Oswald's Bear Ranch and be sure to bring your camera; the ranch has many viewing platforms perfect for pictures! The ranch is home to a large population of full-grown bears and cubs! This is a walkthrough, not a drive-through attraction, handicap accessible, and a cart is available for those who need it.

Crisp Point Lighthouse
Crisp Point Lighthouse was once completely inaccessible by roadway but is now a well-marked, long winding road through an old growth forest. Visitors now have access all the way out to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is one of the most isolated in the Upper Peninsula. Built in 1875, the lighthouse is the only remaining piece of the original complex. Whether you’re there for the scenic views, the solitude or the agates, Crisp Point Lighthouse has a lot to offer!

Shipwreck Museum
The Upper Peninsula’s Lake Superior coastline is no stranger to maritime disasters. Open from May 1st to October 31st, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum has become one of Michigan’s most popular destinations in the U.P! Explore the haunting history of the wrecked ships, view the 12-foot lighthouse lens, examine ancient artifacts, or climb the Whitefish Point Light Tower.

Point Iroquois
The nearby Point Iroquois Lighthouse is rich with history! The lighthouse was first built in 1855 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. This lighthouse guided sailors through the narrow channel into the St. Mary's Falls Canal, more commonly known as the Soo Locks. Come visit Point Iroquois Lighthouse and climb the 65-foot light tower to get spectacular views of Lake Superior and Canada!

The Two Hearted River
The Two Hearted River is an Upper Peninsula gem, spanning more than a hundred miles. Its sandy shorelines make it a must-see. Connect with history and literature with this well-known river, which is also the title to Ernest Hemingway’s novel, “Big Two-Hearted River.” More recently, the river has become famous for the Bells Brewery IPA labeled “Two Hearted.” Head over for the day and enjoy hiking, fishing, or paddle down the river to where the mouth feeds into beautiful Lake Superior. The scenery and wildlife are one of a kind!

Pictured Rocks
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is visited by hundreds of thousands annually, making it a premier destination in the Upper Peninsula. These sandstone cliffs range from 50 to 200 feet rising directly from the cool clear waters of Lake Superior. The 42 miles of shoreline between Munising and Grand Marais is the first National Lakeshore in the United States!

Waterfalls
Paradise Shores Cabins means you are a short trip away from several waterfalls, including the Tahquamenon Falls State Park, which has upper falls for gorgeous views and lower falls for hiking.
Fishing
Fish from the shoreline of Lake Superior or one of Paradise’s many inland lakes. The Two Hearted River or Tahquamenon River offer great fishing as well.
Kayaking
Kayaking is one of the many fun activities for you and your family when you visit Paradise. Eckerman Pond is a beautiful trout pond south of Paradise Shores Cabins. It has a carry down access with a 10 space parking lot within 150 feet from the launching point. Other favorite spots are the Lake Superior shoreline or the many nearby rivers!
Canoeing
The Two Hearted River is the perfect water for a canoeing trip since it has multiple levels of difficulty. The South Branch, East Branch, and mainstream are the most challenging. A more relaxing route is the mainstream portion below the Reed and Green Bridge.
Hiking
Hiking is a joy in Paradise, no matter what your skill level.
With miles of shoreline just a few feet from your door, many guests enjoy just walking the beach.
Just a 20 minute drive from your cabin, the Shallows is a local favorite hiking spot. The Shallows is a trailhead for the North Country Trail that winds you through the towering trees of the Hiawatha National Forest and the sandy shoreline of Lake Superior.
If you're looking for more difficult trails, try out the Tahquamenon Falls Trails system.

Snowmobiling
Paradise is a premier spot for snowmobiling! With hundreds of miles of trails in the area, Paradise Shores Cabins is the perfect base camp for Upper Michigan snow adventures. Sled on over to Taquamenon Falls where they also offer trails for cross country skiing and snow shoeing.
