As we learn more about what it's like to live on a great lake at Paradise Shores Cabins, we're learning more about meteorology and pay much more attention to the weather forecasts in the U.P. ! (Have you seen our new weather widget on our home page?)
Pancake ice forms as Whitefish Bay starts to freeze in the cold winter months. It never ceases to amaze me that we can have open water until the deep cold of January on Lake Superior. Pancake ice was a new phenomenon I had never heard of until spending a winter in Paradise. These lily pad like formations start to form and the frozen water slush splashes up on their edges to give them a raised edge appearance. Apparently this is common in Antarctica but also the great lakes as well! Who Knew?!? #pancakeice #winterinparadise #ParadiseShores
